USS Olympia (NCC-80857) was commissioned early in 2375 at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars. Built during the Dominion War, the Olympia saw the tail-end of the war including the attack on Cardassia. Following the war, the Olympia was assigned to oversee the demilitarisation of the Cardassian Union before being assigned to patrol the Romulan Frontier and contended with the beginning of the incursion and conflict with the Lythar Imperium as well as the Vega Crisis.

History

Construction

As the Olympia was built during the war, she was built solely for the purposes of fighting the Dominion. In a controversial move the Olympia like all ships built during the war was launched without any of the normal amenities or scientific facilities normally seen on starships built beforehand. Starfleet's reasoning behind this was to increase ship production, as the installation of items such as science labs and holodecks (both resource and time intensive actions) would delay starships needed for the front. For ship crews, however, particularly when the Federation Alliance was suffering its series of defeats and morale was at an all-time low. These crews, it felt that Starfleet was building disposable ships with disposable crews.

2375

In 2375, Captain Aiden Wallace became the first commanding officer of the Olympia with Commander Hope Jackson assigned as his executive officer. He held that position until the disastrous raid on the Cardassian controlled Tethys System, in preparation for the final attack on Cardassia Prime. During the attack, the Olympia was heavily damaged, and Captain Wallace was killed, along with twenty other crewmembers. Talloc Hagen formerly of Starfleet Tactical's Office of Strategic Operations was assigned to take command. The Olympia would then go onto participate in the Battle of Cardassia and the subsequent occupation of Cardassia, where they investigated the mysterious issue of Jem'Hadar soldiers committing suicide in large groups and rebelling against the terms of the Dominion Surrender.

The Olympia is dispatched along with Taskforce 25 of the Starfleet 17th Fleet to assist the USS Titan in its negotiations with the Romulan Star Empire. Following the negotiations, the Taskforce will continue to operate along the neutral zone.

2380

While still on the Romulan-Federation Border, the Olympia responds to a distress call that brings them into contact with a rogue Starfleet Officer who has hijacked a vessel of the Federation Merchant Marine, and attempted to take control of the Olympia to use it to further his deadly campaign of vengeance against the Federation that imprisoned him. The Olympia is sent to the furthest edge of Federation Space to Deep Space 5 to investigate the disappearance of four Federation Starships who had been exploring the Unknown Regions in the void between the Federation and Romulan borders. During the course of their investigation, they make disastrous First Contact with the Lythar Imperium thus starting a protracted cold war with the multi-species Empire. The Olympia will continue to operate in and around Imperial Space for the remainder of the year
