USS Olympia (NCC-80857) was commissioned early in 2375 at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars. Built during the Dominion War, the Olympia saw the tail-end of the war including the attack on Cardassia. Following the war, the Olympia was assigned to oversee the demilitarisation of the Cardassian Union before being assigned to patrol the Romulan Frontier and contended with the beginning of the incursion and conflict with the Lythar Imperium as well as the Vega Crisis.
As the Olympia was built during the war, she was built solely for the purposes of fighting the Dominion. In a controversial move the Olympia like all ships built during the war, was launched without any of the normal amenities or scientific facilities normally seen on starships built beforehand. Starfleet's reasoning behind this was to increase ship production, as the installation of items such as science labs and holodecks (both resource and time intensive actions) would delay starships needed for the front. For ship crews however, particularly when the Federation Alliance was suffering its series of defeats and morale was at an all time low. These crews, it felt that Starfleet was building disposable ships with disposable crews.
In 2375, Captain Aiden Wallace became the first commanding officer of the Olympia with Commander Hope Jackson assigned as his executive officer. He held that position until the disastrous raid on the Cardassian controlled Tethys System, in preparation for the final attack on Cardassia Prime. During the attack the Olympia was heavily damaged, and Captain Wallace was killed, along with twenty other crewmembers. Talloc Hagen formerly of Starfleet Tactical's Office of Strategic Operations was assigned to take command
